Bobby Myers, from Oklahoma, fished the West while in the Marines, where fellow pro Kota Kiriyama taught him a lot about how to fish deep, clear water.

Most of the crop of Bassmaster Elite Series rookies – meaning, those who didn't qualify for next month's Bassmaster Classic – won't get their first taste of action until the first week of March, when the tour kicks off at the Harris Chain in Florida.
But each already swallowed a heavy dose of tour-level reality, because entry deposit number one, to the tune of $7,000, was due in early December. And the next round, at $8,000, is due Jan. 29. All told, the rookies (as well as the veterans) will need to muster $55,000 in entry fees for this season, plus at least another $25,000 to $30,000 for travel and miscellaneous expenses.
That puts rookies in a particular pinch – they have no pro track record to sell themselves with, and limited time to find sponsors willing to support them.
One rookie fighting that battle right now is Oklahoma's Bobby Myers, who came up through the Weekend Series and Bassmaster Opens, then made the Elite Series through the Wildcard Qualifier a little more than a month ago.
